What size dog house do I need for my dog’s breed and weight?
The dog house’s internal space should be large enough for your dog to stand up, turn around and lie down comfortably. When buying a new dog house, compare the model’s internal dimensions to a bed your dog uses now. All our dog house listings include recommended breeds. If you are unsure, don’t hesitate to reach out and we can help you choose.
Are the dog houses weatherproof?
Yes, our dog houses are designed to be kept outdoors in the weather. Our timber kennels have waterproof asphalt roofs to keep out the rain, plus plastic flaps over the doors to keep out cold air.
How well insulated are the houses for winter and summer temperatures?
Our dog houses are made from timber which is an insulator. It naturally slows the transfer of heat, keeping it warmer in winter and cooler in summer. This makes our kennels suitable for your dog to sleep in outdoors, all year round.
Are the materials safe, durable and chew-resistant?
Coops & Cages dog houses are made from Chinese fir timber. It is a rot-resistant timber which lasts well outdoors without the need for chemical treatments. It is a soft wood so we cannot guarantee it is chew-proof.
Is assembly required or do they come fully built?
Our dog houses come as flatpacks and require assembly at home. They come as large panels which you simply line up, then screw together. Screws are provided but you will need your own drill. They are not too tricky! If you have any trouble assembling, don’t hesitate to reach out to our customer service team.
Can the dog house be placed outdoors on grass, concrete or patios?
Yes, our kennels can be placed on any flat surface, including grass, dirt, concrete, pavers and decking. We don’t recommend assembling on sloped or uneven surfaces. Placing your kennel under a veranda is not necessary, however it can be a helpful way to provide extra shade in summer.
How do I choose the best dog house for small, medium or large breeds?
When buying a dog house, compare the internal dimensions to either your dog or a bed they sleep in now. If your dog is a puppy, find out how large they are expected to grow and use that as a guide.
It is important to choose the right size. If a kennel is too small, your dog won’t be comfortable. If a kennel is too big, your dog’s body heat won’t be able to warm the space.
What features make these dog houses better than basic or standard models?
All our timber dog houses have an opening roof, making it easy to remove bedding and clean away spider webs. We use bonded asphalt roofs that are waterproof, meaning you don’t have to worry about your dog in the rain.
