8 Things You Can Do for Your Pets in 2017

8 Things You Can Do for Your Pets in 2017 min

Whenever we turn a new chapter in our lives, we often focus on getting a lot of things done. We make resolutions and promises that never really get completed. After a few days, we just forget about them. So this year, why not make a change? Instead of doing things for yourself, do something for your beloved pets. Perhaps, you won’t forget.

1. Do buy your pets some healthy treats.

Of course, you know what I am talking about. Do not ever think of getting your four-legged buddies some junk foods. The calorie content of such treats may only cause your pets to die.

Table scraps? Those are a big “NO-NO”! Feeding table scraps to pets may contribute to obesity. In 2017, feed them with fresh and nutritious foods like fruits and vegetables.

2. Do read the labels of pet foods.

Never ever ignore the labels found in the boxes of pet foods. If you don’t understand what’s in it, might as well speak with your pet’s vet. Every day, you make an important decision for your pets. And that is whether or not to feed them with the right amount of nutrition.

All this said, you must choose wisely. Check the labels carefully because the health of your cats or dogs depends on it.

3. Do make it a habit to take them on walks.

It’s not just your pets that need to walk. Your body needs it, too. It’s never an excuse not to walk them because it’s too hot to go out. You can always head to shady areas like parks. You can even go trekking the mountains.

Then again, you have to make preparations to ensure a comfortable walk routine. Invest in cozy shoes. Purchase dog cages and leashes. Bring along umbrellas and coats. At the end of the day, you and your pet will reap the perks because you will be healthier and become closer to each other!

4. Do visit local animal shelters.

If you have time, please go and visit local animal shelters within the vicinity. See for yourself what needs to be fixed or what materials are needed. Gather information on how you can help those animals that are waiting to be sent to their forever home.

While it can be painful not to be able to bring all the animals home with you, at least you are giving it a try. But if you are truly concerned about stray and abandoned creatures, take time to talk to the workers. For sure, after your chat, you’ll have an idea how you can help.

5. Do save money for your pet’s health.

Yes, there are times when our budget becomes too tight, but never compromise the health of your pets for it. As they say, “Prevention is better than cure.”

Make it a habit to visit the vet at least once a month. Don’t wait for your pet to get sick before you see the vet. As experts in animal medicine, vets will do their best to preserve the health and well-being of animals.

If possible, seek advice on how you can improve the life of your pet. If the vet can’t share anything with you, find it elsewhere. Learn by yourself on how to help your fur babies live their lives to the fullest.

6. Do take preventive measures.

Cats and dogs are at risk for heartworm diseases. Worse is that there is no medication available for cats and that treatment for dogs can be very expensive.

Well, if you think your indoor pets are safe, don’t be too confident. According to research, the chances are still very high and may still result in death if not prevented.

7. Do something about that pesky behaviour.

If behaviour problems are ignored, they can turn into bigger issues. For instance, if your dog is used to barking at passers-by, they might become aggressive in the long run. Hence, when you notice your pooch does something wrong, try disciplining him. But never resort to hitting him. You don’t want him to become scared of you.

The point here is that if you do something about behaviour problems earlier, the easier would it be to correct them.

8. Do show them your love every single day.

Even if times may not be that smooth, be thankful for having your pets throughout the year. Shower them with hugs and kisses to let them know how happy you are to have them. Remind yourself how lucky you are to have shared your days with such loving, loyal, and wonderful creatures.

Every day is special if you have your pets around. So be thankful for having them and never ever do anything that’ll ruin your bond. As much as possible, do all that you can to make them happy because in return, they’ll love you more than you love yourself. That is a guarantee.
